Her dark eyes were wide as she brushed the grime off the papery petals. "You really couldn't find anything nicer?" she asked, her voice having the slightest hint of a wan, rather downcast tremor.  
 
He kissed her forehead, and his smooth lips were like fire against her pallid skin. "I don't want it to compete with your pretty face."
